Ruben was a beloved husband to Delia Pena, with whom he shared an enduring partnership of 45 years. Together, they cultivated a loving home filled with laughter and joy. He was a devoted father to his children, Diego Rodriguez, Camila (Jose Jr.) Hernandez, Renae Valencia, Reeva Pena (Homero Saenz), and Kayla Pena (Jaime Estrada). Each of his 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren brought him immense pride and happiness, as he regarded them as the greatest gifts of his life.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, Ruben was the life of the party. He excelled at bringing joy to those around him with his countless jokes and stories. As a grandfather, he was especially beloved, spending treasured moments with his grandchildren-his affection for them was unwavering.
Ruben had many interests that brought him joy; he found great pleasure in gardening and had a talent for fixing just about anything. His fondness for his old pickup truck and admiration of his Harley motorcycle, although he did not ride it, highlighted his appreciation for classic Americana. Additionally, he enjoyed watching alien movies and often joined his daughter Reeva for lunch dates, celebrating the simple joys of life together.
Ruben's legacy is anchored in his strong family ties. He is survived by his brothers, Luis Pena, Rene Pena, Omar Pena, and Ramiro Pena, as well as his sisters, Dalila Rivera, Yolanda Loya, Dora Torres, and Rosalinda Moreno. He is predeceased by his brothers Felix Pena and Rogelio Pena, and his sisters Irma Blanca Pena.
The Pena family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of Ruben at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of Grace on Thursday, January 8, 2026. A viewing will take place from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. As per his wishes, Mr. Pena will be cremated at a later date.
