Weslaco- With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Richard "Richie" Valdez, who left this world on June 21, 2026, at the age of 52. Born on March 8, 1974, in Bryan, Texas, Richie's journey took him from his roots in Bryan to Weslaco where he touched of countless lives far beyond, all while carrying with him the warmth, kindness, and laughter that marked his every step.

To know Richie was to know someone who embodied love and kindness in its truest forms. Those who spent even a brief moment with him could instantly feel the sincerity of his care and respect. Richie had a remarkable way of lighting up any room he entered-his great sense of humor and unique ability to bring joy to any occasion was treasured by all who loved him. He approached every relationship with warmth and generosity, making family gatherings and friendly encounters memorable simply because he was there.

Richie's greatest joys in life always centered around the ones he loved most. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Amy Cuellar-Valdez, who stood by his side with unwavering love and companionship. Richie also leaves behind his loving daughter, Kareli Mia Valdez, who each carry forward the light, strength, and wisdom he so freely shared; his parents, Mr. Juventino Valdez Jr & Mrs. Margarita Rodriguez Valdez; his brother Ruben Valdez; his sister, Sonia Linda (Raul Jr.) Castillo and his loving niece and nephew, Kaylee Christine Castillo & Ayden Ryan Castillo. Richie found delight in spending time with family, cherishing simple moments just as much as grand celebrations. His family was not only his priority, but also his heart and source of fulfillment.

Outside the embrace of his family, Richie found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life, especially in golfing-a pastime that provided him opportunities for camaraderie, laughter, and moments of reflection. Whether sharing stories over a golf game or gathered beside a loved one, Richie's intrinsic kindness and clever wit left a mark that will remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to call him a friend, a confidant, or family.
