Rene Mendez Rodriguez

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rene Mendez Rodriguez, a beloved father, husband, son and brother, who departed on January 4, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on January 19, 1953, in Pueblo Viejo Veracruz Mexico, Rene lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

Rene is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Del Refugio Mendez Hernandez.

He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Gonzalez (Jose, Jr.), Hady Mendez (Juan Cordova); his mother, Julia Mendez and one sister, Myrna Jasso Mendez (Roberto Flores). Also surviving are five grandchildren, Valeria Gonzalez, Sherlyn Pruneda, Jocelyn Pruneda, Erik Gonzalez and Adalyn Cordova. Rene shared countless memories, instilling in her the values of love, respect, and perseverance.

Rene's life will be celebrated in a series of memorial events designed to honor his legacy and the warmth he brought into the lives of others. Visitation will be held 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2025 at Salinas Funeral Home Weslaco with a 6:00 PM Rosary.

A 1:00 PM Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, providing an opportunity for the family and friends to come together in prayer and celebration of Rene's life. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Donna,TX, where he will find peace in eternal rest.

Rene Mendez Rodriguez lived a life deserving of celebration-with love for his family and community at its core. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire all who had the honor of crossing his path.
