Petra Flores

Weslaco- Petra Flores, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026 at the age of 76. Surrounded by her family, Petra entered into eternal rest after a long fight with dementia and pulmonary fibrosis.

Petra was born on December 24, 1949 in Weslaco, Texas to Abeldia and Jesus Lopez. Petra was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who gave her all to her family. She was happiest watching her grandchildren thrive, playing cards with her friends and family, and spent most of her afternoons reading. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. She loved the Lord and was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen and First Baptist Church in Weslaco.

Petra is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather Abeldia and Rogelio Charles, father Jesus Lopez, three brothers Salvador, Herman and Jesus Lopez and two sisters Blanca Herrera and Maggie Valenzuela. Petra is survived by her daughters Yvett (Cruz) Morales, Vicky (Javier) De La Garza, Sally Covarrubias, and son David Padilla Jr, sister Abby (Jose Luis) Ibarra, brothers Roy (Julie) Charles, and Peter Charles. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Jason and Sarah Morales; Benjamin and Gabriella De La Garza; Kirsten, Emma, David Ian and Gianna Padilla.

A Celebration of Life service will be held this Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church 600 S. Kansas Avenue in Weslaco, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Children's Ministry in honor of her love for Christ and children.

Services have been entrusted to Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco.
