With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Elena Gonzalez, who left this world on March 17, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on February 13, 1956, in San Juan, Texas, Maria touched the lives of many with her generous spirit and unwavering kindness.
Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to uplifting those around her. Maria had an innate ability to listen, comfort, and support others-a true testament to her compassionate nature.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Gonzalez and Maria Guadalupe Olmeda.
Maria Elena is survived by seven brothers, Juan Gonzalez (Ana), Jose A. Gonzalez (Elaine), Jose A. Gonzalez, Lupe Gonzalez, Osvaldo Gonzalez (Amanda), Tommy Gonzalez (Velma), Robert Gonzalez (Sandra); five sisters, Mariana Gonzalez, Martha Galvan (Mario), Josie Gonzalez (Sergio Castillo+), Cristina Rodriguez (Jesus) and Amelia Valdez (Gilbert). Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
As we remember Maria's extraordinary life, we invite friends and family to gather in her honor. A viewing will be held at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Rosary allowing loved ones to pay their respects.
A 10:00 AM Mass to celebrate Maria's life will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, March 27, 2026. Immediately following the Mass, Maria will be laid to rest at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 11:00 AM. These moments will serve as a fitting tribute to her life-celebrating the love she shared and the memories that will forever be treasured.
As we come together to honor and remember Maria Elena Gonzalez, may we find comfort in our shared memories and the legacy of love she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
