Maria De la Luz Caballero

Weslaco- Maria De la Luz "Luz" Caballero, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Weslaco, Texas. Born on September 7, 1947, in Mendez, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Luz's life was a testament to gentle kindness, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family.

Luz grew up in a close-knit family, lovingly raised by her parents Francisca "Panchita" and Ramon Mendoza, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her dear brother Benito Mendoza.

Deeply committed to her family, Luz shared a remarkable and enduring partnership with her husband, Martin Caballero of 59 years. Luz was the cherished mother of Arturo (Connie) Caballero, Abiel (Lucy) Caballero, and Toni (Jorge Castañeda) Caballero. She leaves behind treasured memories and gentle guidance that will continue to inspire her children throughout their lives.

Luz also embraced her role as a loving grandmother to Joaquin Caballero, Santiago Caballero, Riley Caballero, Noah Caballero, Diego Castañeda, Daniel Castañeda, and Maya Castañeda. Her legacy lives on through them, a testament to the warmth and nurturing she brought to her family.

Her ties to her siblings were profound. Luz is survived by her brother Sergio Mendoza, and by her sisters Angelita Ramirez, Lila Mendoza, and Andrea Acevedo.

A public viewing will be held on July 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens, located at 2929 W. Expressway 83, Weslaco, TX 78599. A Rosary will take place at the same location at 7:00 p.m. that evening. The funeral service will be held on July 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens. Interment will follow at Weslaco City Cemetery.
