BROWNSVILLE - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Salinas, who left us peacefully on October 16, 2025, at the age of 83.
Maria was a strong-minded, determined woman with a will of iron and a heart full of love. She was an overcomer in every sense - a problem solver who approached life's challenges with resilience, and a quiet strength. Whether she was tending to her beloved garden, sipping coffee throughout the day, or simply sitting outside enjoying nature, Maria found beauty in the quiet moments. In her younger years, Maria lived in California, where she found joy in the ocean, going to the beach, and fishing. She also had a great love for dance - especially flamenco - and was a lifelong Elvis Presley fan. She loved to sew and always looked forward to new creative projects. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting the zoo during the summertime and enjoying the warmth of the season. Maria had a sweet tooth and a special fondness for ice cream, especially sherbet. Her favorite color, lavender, reflected the calming, gentle side of her nature - a color that suited her beautifully. She was also known for her deep devotion and fierce protectiveness toward her children. Family was everything to Maria. She raised her children with love, strength, and unwavering support, always putting their well-being first. She was a loving mother who wasn't afraid to stand firm when it came to protecting those she loved most. Maria also took great pride in her cooking. She loved to prepare meals from scratch - with care, tradition, and heart. Maria's life was rich in love, laughter, and resilience. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She is survived by her two children, Vanessa Margarita Broussard, Phillip Salinas Jr. ; five grandchildren, Serena Sanchez, Devon Farris-Salinas, Jireh Salinas, Kyle Vincent Graybill, and Josephine Alivia Broussard; many more family and friends.
A private service will be held to honor Maria's life.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Salinas Funeral Home of Brownsville.
