Maria Jesus Alvarez Garza, born on September 19, 1939, in Donna, TX, peacefully passed away on June 8, 2026, at Weslaco Nursing and Rehab. A woman of quiet strength and boundless love, Maria cherished her family above all and held a private yet deeply affectionate heart.

Everyone loved her tortillas de harina with refried beans, a comforting dish that conveyed her care and nurturance. Though reserved, her love for her children and family radiated quietly but profoundly, touching all who crossed her path.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Luis Alvarez and Carmen Munoz Alvarez, her devoted husband Efrain Garza Sr., her daughter Janet Garza Lopez, and granddaughter Milagro del Cielo Silva. She also joins her brothers Pedro Alvarez, Daniel Alvarez, and Eloy Alvarez, and her sisters Esther Villarreal and Emma Tristan, leaving behind a tapestry of memories woven through shared joys and sorrows.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memory her son Efrain (Stacey) Garza Jr., her daughter Jesica Garza Silva, brothers Carlos Alvarez, and sisters Adela Cantu, Paola Tamez, and Consuelo Rivera. Her legacy continues vibrantly through her grandchildren Jon Matthew (Samantha) Diaz and Faith HopeAnLove (Jose) Lopez, affectionately known as "Penny," along with her great-great-grandchildren Jordyn Diaz, Cheyenne Diaz, Milani Zuniga, James Zuniga, and Genesis Zuniga.

Services to celebrate Maria's life will begin with a viewing from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens, located at 2929 W. Expressway 83 in Weslaco, TX. A prayer service will be held there on the same day from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The following day,vSaturday, June 20, 2026, a funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM at Templo Lugar Para Cristo, 2102 Caceres St., Donna, TX, followed immediately by interment at Webber Cemetery in Donna.
