With profound sadness, the family of Marcel Lopez announces his passing on July 13, 2026, in San Benito, Texas. Born on June 30, 1967, in Pharr, Texas, Marcel's gentle spirit and steadfast love reverberated through every chapter of his life, gracing each person fortunate enough to know him.
Marcel's story began in the Rio Grande Valley, surrounded by the warmth and joy of a large family. His journey was shaped by the values of steadfast dedication, kindness, and generosity. These virtues were continuously present, from his formative years in Pharr, to the vibrant life he built among his family and friends. His infectious smile, unwavering work ethic, and capacity for compassion grew from these deep roots.
Family was Marcel's anchor, and he cherished them above all. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Lou Lopez, who stood by his side as his partner, confidante, and friend for 39 years. Together, they built a home filled with laughter and love, nurturing a bond that stands as a testament to lasting devotion. Marcel's pride in his sons-Ricardo David Lopez (Hilaria) and Miguel Marcel Lopez-was boundless. To them, he was a father whose wisdom came as much from his actions as his words. His guidance, courage, and affectionate spirit will forever be a beacon for them.
Marcel was also the proud grandfather of Alejandro Lopez, Jordan Koite, and Kassidy Koite. Each grandchild brought him immense joy. He enjoyed listening to their stories, celebrating their dreams, and encouraging their every step forward. The memories made together-quiet mornings, shared meals, heartfelt laughter-are gifts Marcel gave them that will endure, cherished forever.
In his extended family, Marcel shared deep connections with his brothers-Ruben Lopez, Mario Lopez (Connie), Antonio Lopez (Rebeca), and Jose Lopez (Maricela)-and his sisters-Gregorio Garza (Gustavo), Cristina Torres (Tony), Maria Sandoval, and Viola Quintero (Eddie). To his siblings, Marcel was a steadfast source of strength and familial love, ever generous with his time, humor, and support. He nurtured lifelong bonds that lifted and sustained those around him. His kindness was an unwavering constant, felt keenly by each member of his family.
Marcel's parents, Eulogio Lopez and Eleazar Torres, and his brother, Jose Luis Torres, preceded him in death. Their guiding presence shaped his heart, and their memory remained treasured by Marcel throughout his life.
Marcel embraced life in its fullness. Those privileged to call him friend recall a man whose loyalty was unwavering, whose counsel was gentle and wise, and whose laughter could transform even the simplest moment into something unforgettable. His devotion to those he cared for leaves an indelible mark-a living legacy of warmth, honesty, and generosity.
To honor Marcel's life and memory, the family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a viewing on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens (2929 W.
