Lionel M. Piña, 78, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Weslaco, Texas, surrounded by the love and memories of a family who will forever cherish him.
Lionel was born on August 28, 1948, in Weslaco, Texas, to Claudio Pina and Concepcion Mendoza. Lionel built a life centered around family, love, and the relationships that meant the most to him.
For 54 beautiful years, Lionel shared his life with his loving wife, Maria Irma Piña. Together, they built a family and a lifetime of memories that will continue to live through their children, grandchildren, and generations to come. His greatest legacy can be found in the family he loved and in the many moments they were blessed to share with him.
Lionel was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Claudio Piña and Concepcion Mendoza.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 54 years, Maria Irma Piña; his son, Lionel Piña II (Janie); and his three daughters, Frances Kimberlin Villanueva (Robert Jr.), Elisa Piña, and Christina Piña (Eddie Lopez). He is also survived by his two brothers, Alonzo Piña and Noe Piña; and his sister, Aurora Rivera.
His memory will also be lovingly carried forward by his six grandchildren, Katherine Kimberlin Villanueva, Robert Villanueva III, Katie Villanueva, Kristian Villanueva, Edie M. Lopez, and Emma Lopez. To them, the memories, lessons, and love of their grandfather will remain a treasured part of their lives.
Although Lionel's passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express, his family finds comfort in the 78 years of life he was given and the countless memories created along the way. A husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Lionel's story does not end with his passing. It continues in the lives of those he loved, in the stories they will tell, and in the memories that will bring both tears and smiles for years to come.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of Heavens, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Lionel M. Piña will be cremated at a later date.
May the love Lionel gave so freely remain forever in the hearts of his family, and may his memory continue to be a source of comfort, strength, and peace to all who knew and loved him.
