Karen Van Sickle Muñiz, 74, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Muñiz was born on April 26, 1952 to Grant VanSickle and Blanch Campbell in Sebring, Florida.
Mrs. Muñiz is preceded in death by her father, Grant VanSickle, Sr.; mother Virgie VanSickle; father-in-law Jose Muñiz, Sr.; mother-in-law Francisca Cadena Muñiz; brother John VanSickle; daughter Melissa Muñiz; son Michael Muñiz; daughter-in-law Anissa Rackstraw Muñiz; son-in-law Gene Coffren, Jr.; sister-in-law Lydia Muñiz Sheffield; brothers-in-law BD Sheffield and Tim Leigh.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Gerardo Muñiz, Sr.; sons Gerardo "Jerry" Muñiz, Jr. (Jamie) of McBee, SC and Anthony Muñiz (Laura) of Cypress, TX; daughters Deanna Muñiz of Weslaco, TX and Jennifer Coffren (Gene t) of Russellville, AR; brothers Grant VanSickle, Sr. (Deborah) of Clewiston, FL and Norval Van Sickle (Vickie) of Florence, SC; sister Vicki Leigh (Tim t) of Clermont, FL; aunt Carolyn VanSickle of Wauchula, FL; sister-in-law Odelia Muñiz Mata (Ignacio) of South Bay, FL; brother-in-law Jose Muñiz, Jr. (Cassie) of Clewiston, FL; grandchildren Jacob Muñiz, Matthew Muñiz (Mallory), Tyler Muñiz (Angel), Caleb Muñiz (KC), Ryan Anderson (Ashley), Chase Anderson (Anna); Madison Muñiz, Tony Pineda, Mariana Villalpando, Angel Chavez, Lauren Muñiz; great grandchildren Emery Anderson, Kip Anderson, Easton Anderson, Wesley Anderson, Nathan Muñiz, Gracie Chapple, Avery Chapple, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Raised in Belle Glade, Florida, Karen carried with her the values of family, faith, hard work, and compassion throughout her life. Belle Glade always held a special place in her heart, for it was there she met the love of her life, Jerry. Their story began in that small community and grew into a beautiful marriage that endured for 56 years, a testament to their devotion and partnership.
In 1980, Karen and Jerry moved their young family to Columbus, Texas, where they spent seven meaningful years before returning briefly to South Florida. In 1990, they settled once more in Texas and made Weslaco the place they would proudly call home.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She raised her children with unwavering love, strength, and wisdom, always placing her family at the center of her world. Nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her loved ones, especially her cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Karen lived her life guided by God's word. Her gentle spirit and steadfast devotion were evident in every aspect of her life.
Karen worked as a library assistant for South Texas ISD, where her love of books and learning touched countless students and colleagues. She found joy in helping others discover the world through reading and retired in 2019 after years of dedicated service.
She had a passion for cooking and baking, and she delighted in sharing her treasured recipes with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be passed down for generations.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of Grace from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Prayer Service.
Karen will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the endless care she gave to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and in the many lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, guidance, and memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
