Jose De La Fuente, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Edinburg, Texas. He was born on May 17, 1940, in Rayones Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and throughout his 86 years left a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Jose’s story is marked by deep love and commitment, notably to his wife, Antonia, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was the foundation of a vibrant and loving family, and together they created a warm home filled with laughter, generosity, and care.
A man with a great sense of humor, Jose brought joy and levity into every room he entered. He was known for his kindness and generous spirit, always putting his family above all else. His role as a supportive husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather formed the heart of his identity. Jose’s warmth and selflessness touched each member of his family, and the lessons of compassion and perseverance he imparted will be cherished across generations.
He is survived by his loving wife Antonia, his daughter Sandra Gonzalez (Omar), and his son Juan Jose De La Fuente (Aminta). Jose’s legacy further lives on through his grandchildren: Micheal Isaiah De La Fuente, Marina Ivette De La Fuente, Kassandra Gonzalez, Omar Gonzalez, Jr., and Juan Diego De La Fuente, as well as his great-granddaughter, Leila Rae Gonzalez and another on the way. Each family member carries forth the values and loves he so generously gave.
Jose is now reunited with his father, Jose Maria De La Fuente, and his mother, Ramona Gonzalez, who preceded him in death.
Family and friends are invited to honor Jose’s life and memory at several upcoming services. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Salinas Funeral Home – Chapel of the Angels, located at 304 E. Edinburg Ave, Elsa, TX 78543. A Rosary will take place that evening at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass celebrating Jose’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Villa, Texas, 200 N Laurel Ave, La Villa, TX 78562. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park at 6705 N FM 88, Weslaco, TX 78599.
Jose De La Fuente’s life was one of quiet strength, laughter, and generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
