Jimmie Jack Lawrence

February 11, 1936 — May 22, 2023

Edcouch

Edcouch- Jimmy Jack Lawrence, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 22 of 2023.

Jimmy Jack Lawrence was born in Aspermont, Tx. 1936. By the early 1950s, Jimmy Jack Lawrence was on tour with Billy Walker playing and singing country music. He was known to all as "The Little Man with a Big Voice" and many of his fans compared him to Charlie Pride!

After his tour ended, he settled down in Odessa, Tx. and played on a weekly television show called " The Hub Jamboree."

Back in those days, TV broadcasting could only reach about a 50-mile range, yet he was known everywhere within a 200-mile radius!! His fame in those days was no easy feat even compared to today's standards.

Jimmy eventually moved and relocated to the Rio Grande Valley and settled down in Edcouch, Tx. where he was known to all as the local handy man. He would work for little to nothing, fixing everyone's broken electronic and appliances.  Any time something was broken, it seemed as though the entire delta area turned to him for help.

On his free time, he loved to go fishing and listen to all the songs he truly loved as they reminded him of his days as a famous musician!

He raised all his children around playing and recording music, in particular old country music. Every family occasion or event included singing and listening to music.

His love for music lives on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many of whom continue to amaze others with their musical talents, just like their Popo.

Mr. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Theron Clifford Lawrence and Mrs. Elsie Ermal Speer; his wife, Carlota Lawrence; his son, Jimmy Don Lawrence; his daughter, Sherry Johnson; his brothers, Don Lawrence & Johnny Lawrence.

Left to cherish Jimmie Jack Lawrence memories are his daughters, Cindy Lawrence, Judy Lynn (Steve) Moreno, Donna Gibson, Tana (Kevin) Armitage, Melissa (Shannon) Maricle, Amanda (Lee "Walo") Garate, his sister, Jerry Ann Chandler; 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
