Gregorio Avila, a beloved figure who resonated with the rhythms of life, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the age of 52. Born on August 26, 1973, in Pharr, Texas, Gregorio's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was renowned as the best drummer in Texas, a title that celebrated not only his remarkable musical talent but also his unwavering passion for connecting with others through the universal language of music.

His journey into drumming commenced at the young age of 14 when he began to make his mark in Reynosa, Mexico. Over the years, he played with various bands, starting his career with Grupo La Guerra and concluding his drummer journey with Grupo Puma. His musical legacy also included performances with Santa Apolonia and Grupo Pegasso, while his heart cherished the sounds of Super Estrella. Gregorio's love for drumming was deeply intertwined with his joyful personality; he was a jokester who brightened the day of everyone he encountered. Always finding a reason to smile, he shared a multitude of jokes with friends through texts and spent his days radiating happiness and goodwill.

Among his greatest treasures was his family, to whom he dedicated his life and love. He leaves behind his wife, Erika Elizabeth Jasso, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love for over 21 years. Their extraordinary story began when they crossed paths at a quinceañera at the Activity Center in Pharr, where what started as a fleeting glance turned into a beautiful partnership of love and companionship. Gregorio was a devoted father to his daughters, Cindy Paola Avila and Yazmin Mireya Avila, as well as a caring stepfather to Samantha Cobos, Ocean L. Jasso,Carlos Hernandez and Enrique Jasso Jr. His role as a grandfather was equally cherished, as he adored his grandchildren: Jesus Daniel Avila, Alison Savannah Trevino, Sebastian Hernandez, Jeremy Mujica, Michael Angelo Mujica, Alize Marie Jasso, Dylan Haia, Edrick Cobos, and his little one on the way. He was a loving great-grandfather to sweet Sabrina E. Mujica, who brought him immense joy.

Gregorio is survived by his brother Hector Avila, and sisters Veronica Avila and Geronima Avila, who will carry his memory forward. He is reunited with his beloved parents, Benito Avila and Aurora Rivera, as well as his brother, Benito Avila, and sister, Maria del Refugio Avila, who have preceded him in death.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Gregorio Avila, we are reminded of the laughter he shared, the music he created, and the love he freely gave. His legacy will live on through the memories held dear by his family and friends, and the lasting impact he made on their lives.

Visitation will be held at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens on January 14, 2026, from 3 PM to 9 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted on January 15, 2026, at 1 PM, with interment to follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2 PM.
