PORT MANSFIELD - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fernando Riojas Rodriguez, who left this world peacefully at home on October 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 20, 1953, Fernando lived a life full of heart, kindness, and joy. A big-hearted man with a gentle soul, he had a quiet nature at first, but once you got to know him, his warmth, humor, and love for storytelling would shine through. Fernando had a special gift for making people smile and never hesitated to go out of his way to help others. He was a beloved driver's education teacher for nearly 20 years, shaping young lives through his work with Edcouch ISD and Del-Car Driving School. His passion for teaching and genuine care for his students left a lasting impact on many in the community. Fernando was known and loved by many, and over the years he collected a long list of nicknames from his friends-each one a reflection of the bond he shared with them. Whether it was a funny inside joke or a name that captured a part of his personality, these nicknames were just one more way people expressed their affection for him. He cherished the simple joys of life-gardening, painting, cooking, and especially sharing his famous fried chicken and potato and eggs with loved ones. He had a passion for travel, often taking trips to his hometown of Del Rio, San Antonio, South Padre Island, and Eagle Pass-always up for a getaway, especially if there was a casino nearby. Music and dance brought him great happiness-he especially loved cumbias and disco, and he could always be counted on to bring energy to the dance floor. His super-friendly, approachable nature made him unforgettable to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Fernando will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories told, the meals shared, the music played, and the countless lives he touched.
He is survived by his children, Jose Luis (Johanna) Rodriguez, and Juana Alicia Salas Rodriguez; four grandchildren, Destiny Marie, Aaliyah, Nancy Rodriguez, and Ericka Salas; Teresa Longoria; four brothers, three sisters; and many more family and friends.
Fernando is welcomed in heaven his beloved wife, Maria S. Rodriguez; his parents, Margarita and Maria Petra Rodriguez.
