David Clark Handy, born in Weslaco, Texas, on January 9, 1961, departed this world on May 31, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy marked by laughter, unwavering devotion, and an insatiable love for life’s open roads.
David’s journey was richly woven with dedication and service. A proud US Army Veteran, he served his country honorably from 1979 to 1983, embodying a spirit of commitment and bravery that would resonate throughout his life. Following his military tenure, he embraced the calling of healthcare as an LVN/LPN from 1985 to 1997, where his compassionate nature touched countless lives. Yet, it was behind the wheel of a long-haul truck from 1997 until his final days in 2024 where David found a boundless joy—finding solace and freedom on the ribbon of highway stretching ahead.
Not one to rest on his laurels, David spent five years in asphalt paving, earning the esteem of his coworkers and employer alike. His boss’s heartfelt reflection captures a truth felt by many: “David was more than an employee, he was my friend and he will be greatly missed by all his work family.” This speaks to David’s ability to transcend titles, becoming a steadfast companion and a pillar of reliability in every circle he joined.
To know David was to experience the “life of the party” — a man whose laughter was contagious and whose joyful spirit refused to be dimmed, no matter the trials he faced. His generosity was boundless, a constant willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Above all, David treasured his roles as a son, brother, and father with an enduring fervor.
His family—his beloved children, Jason Clark Handy and Athena Marie Handy, his devoted mother Carmen G. Handy, his sisters Carmen Vanessa Handy and Wendy Handy Tristan, a brother, and a host of nieces and nephews—carry forth his memory, each touched deeply by his presence. They join in mournful reflection alongside those who grieve the loss of Robert Clark Handy, also departed, while celebrating the life of a man whose influence remains vibrant.
David’s story is inscribed in the highways he traveled, in the laughter he shared, and in the quiet moments of steadfast love that defined his essence. His passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter, but the spirit of David Clark Handy—joyful, generous, and unyieldingly strong—will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mr. Handy's funeral services are pending.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco.
