Consuelo A Contreras

June 25, 1942 — April 1, 2026

Consuelo A. Contreras, a woman whose life was a testament to devotion, family unity, and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 1, 2026. Born on June 25, 1942, in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Consuelo's journey through life was marked by grace, privacy, and a steadfast love for those closest to her.

Consuelo's profound spirituality was a cornerstone of her character. She was deeply religious, often finding solace and strength in quiet reflection and prayer. Her enduring faith was not only a personal sanctuary but also a guiding light for her extensive and cherished family.

She embraced life's simple joys with a heartfelt enthusiasm. An avid sports fan, Consuelo delighted in watching the Houston Astros and during football season, she was equally captivated by the Dallas Cowboys. Her fondness for community and tradition was often expressed through spirited games of chalupa and lively gatherings at the Maquinitas. Food held a special place in her heart, with Olive Garden's dishes being among her favorites. She treasured family moments most-especially when her son would prepare barbecue, a beloved ritual that brought everyone closer. Above all, her grandchildren were the apples of her eye; she loved them unconditionally and kept each lovingly in her prayers.

Consuelo's family was indeed a reflection of her generous spirit and nurturing nature. She is survived by her devoted sons, Ramiro Contreras (Norma) and Juan Jose Contreras Jr (Fracisca); beloved daughters, Rosa E. Rodriguez (Miguel A.), Irma Rosenbaum (Sotero Jr.), Lydia Esquivel (Cruz Leonardo Sr.), and Amelia Contreras; her dear brothers, Hemenejildo Avalos Jr. and sister Yolanda Avalos; as well as an extended family of 23 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren who were the very heartbeat of her life. They, along with her numerous friends, carry forward the legacy of her love and resilience.

Consuelo was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Juan Jose Contreras Sr., and her sons Juan Alberto Contreras Sr. and Javier Contreras. She also mourned the loss of her brothers Jesus Avalos, Eduardo Avalos, Ruben Avalos, and sisters Guadalupe Sierra, Carmen Avalos, and Alicia Avalos.
