Alejo C. Perez, Jr., a cherished educator, veteran, and beloved family patriarch, passed away on April 16, 2026, in McAllen, TX. Born on April 29, 1939, in Elsa, TX, Alejo devoted his life to his community, his country, and most dearly, his family.
Alejo's professional legacy is marked by over 20 years of dedicated teaching at Edcouch-Elsa High School. His commitment to education and the wellbeing of his students left an indelible mark on countless lives. Alejo was not only a mentor in the classroom but also a kind and welcoming presence, always putting others at ease with his warm spirit and infectious sense of humor. Known for his love of telling jokes and making those around him laugh, he was a source of joy and comfort to many.
Before his career in education, Alejo honorably served in the United States Navy for 20 years, a testament to his profound dedication and patriotism. His service added to the deep respect he garnered throughout his life.
Alejo was a loving husband to Maria O. Perez, to whom he was married for 65 years. Together, they nurtured a loving family that grew to include their children Ruben Perez (and his wife Norma), Virginia Perez, and Victoria Perez, who was preceded in life by her husband Harold Schneider. He was also a beloved grandfather to seven grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family, Alejo is survived by his sisters Catarina Beresky and Maria Alicia Perez Garcia. His family circle also includes Mary Sanchez Perez, daughter-in-law, who shared his warm and generous spirit. His memory is cherished across generations who will continue to honor his legacy.
Alejo was preceded in death by his sons, Jose Andres Perez and Juan Alejo Perez; his parents Alejo L. Perez and Virginia Cavazos; and his brothers Andres, Arturo, and Juan Perez. He also mourns the loss of his sister Gloria Rodriguez.
Those wishing to pay their respects may attend the viewing and prayer service at the Salinas Funeral Home Elsa - Chapel of the Heavens, located at 304 E Edinburg Ave, Elsa, TX 78543. The viewing will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the prayer service to begin at 7:00 PM.
As per his wishes, Mr. Perez will be cremated at a later date.
Alejo C. Perez, Jr.'s enduring kindness, humor, and dedication to his family and community will long be remembered. His life stands as a testament to compassion, strength, and integrity. He will be deeply missed but forever treasured in the hearts of all who knew him.
